Problem Statement

XPress Processing’s Payment Gateway included multiple payment-related features and workflows, including API integration, hosted checkout, PCI compliance, fraud prevention, and transaction reporting. The challenge was to organize these capabilities into clear, consistent, and user-friendly experiences for merchants and businesses.

I worked on the UI/UX design of these experiences, focusing on clear information hierarchy, intuitive navigation, and consistent visual patterns across the payment gateway.

UX Analysis & Design

I reviewed the existing payment gateway experience and worked closely with developers and project stakeholders to understand the product requirements, identify usability and consistency issues, and translate them into clear UI/UX solutions.

Ideation & Solution Exploration

I explored and refined multiple design directions based on the application flow, business requirements, and feedback from developers and stakeholders. The goal was to simplify complex payment and merchant workflows while keeping the experience clear and easy to navigate.

XPress Processing Application Flow

I mapped the merchant application flow from the initial application through validation, verification, and account creation. The flow covered required business information, payment methods, compliance checks, and different paths for complete and partial applications.

Key considerations included:

  • Merchant information and payment method selection

  • Required fields, terms, and application completion

  • Automated validation and third-party verification

  • Manual verification when additional information was required

  • Complete and partial application paths

Wireframing

I developed wireframes for key XPress Processing screens to define the structure, content hierarchy, navigation, and user interactions before moving into visual design.

The wireframes helped me explore and refine workflows across merchant onboarding, payment processing, account management, and reporting based on product requirements and feedback from developers and stakeholders.

Visual Design

I developed a clean and consistent visual direction for the payment gateway experience, using a focused color palette, clear typography, and reusable UI patterns to create a professional interface across the platform.

Interactive Prototyping

I created interactive prototypes in Figma to demonstrate key workflows, interactions, and screen transitions across the XPress Processing platform.

Iterations & Refinements

I refined the designs based on stakeholder and developer feedback, focusing on improving layout, interaction patterns, and consistency across key workflows. The iterations helped clarify the user experience and prepare the designs for development.

Final Design

The final design brings together the main XPress Processing screens into a clear and consistent experience. The design focuses on simple navigation, organized information, and consistent UI patterns across the platform.

Impact & Outcome

The redesign brought greater clarity and consistency to key XPress Processing workflows, including merchant onboarding, account management, payment processing, reporting, and integration. The updated interface established reusable UI patterns and a more structured experience across the platform, while supporting responsive layouts and developer handoff.

What I Learned

This project strengthened my experience designing complex B2B payment workflows and helped me better understand how to structure information across different areas of a business application. I learned the importance of keeping navigation, components, and interactions consistent across multiple workflows. I also improved my collaboration with developers and stakeholders throughout the design process.

Next Steps

The next step would be to continue refining the key workflows based on feedback from merchants, stakeholders, and the development team. I would also focus on improving consistency across responsive experiences and validating the most important flows through further user feedback and testing.
